Hey Russell: You don't know me. I came across your blog quite by accident (something to do with Huffpost). You can check me out at PrisonerOfZion.com. My name is Sam Pinkerton. I'm currently forced to live in Israel to remain a father. I see that you have an interest in children (I was once a boy scout myself). I see a few links between us - a love of children, of Charles Dickens; I count "El Cid" and "Amadeus" as favorites (but thought "American Psycho" was a pile until the ultra-surprising ending; am a believer in John McCain. I see we both share a bit of a confusion about Israel. I look at it a bit like an attempt to colonize mars. Very difficult indeed. But, it is the only democracy in this part of the world (if Iraq makes it, there will be two). Despite being immensely tiny, Israel is on the 'front line' of terrorism. I was actually for the war in Iraq in that I believe the middle east to be a bad slah evil (but with no religious connotation) part of the world and saw the U.S. invasion as a means of puncturing it. I've been here off and on for eight years (Tel Aviv that is) and have come to understand that Israel is not why the Saudi's et al don't like the west. Westerners are infidels/non-believers. And despite really - really - not liking to have to live here, I have at least to come to understand it. But I am trying to get out with my boys before anything worse than the nearly dozen suicide bombings I've heard happens. Check me out at PrisonerOfZion.com. Love to hear from you.
